Glen Johnson says Liverpool can claim top-four place

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes Sunday's 2-1 win over Chelsea proves the Reds can clinch a place in the Champions League.

Johnson's team are level on points with Chelsea who sit fourth in the league.

"We're taking it game by game but our aim is the top four and that's what we are fighting for," the 27-year-old told BBC Radio Merseyside .

"If we start getting a few more points at home and keep what we're doing away, I'm sure we won't be too far away."

It was Johnson who scored the winner three minutes from time at Stamford Bridge after Daniel Sturridge equalised Maxi Rodriguez's opener.

And the England full-back was delighted with the character shown by Liverpool when they were under pressure in the second period.

"I think we dominated the first half, but Chelsea are a great side and we expected a reaction in the second half and we got that.

"Chelsea are always going to have periods of the game when they're on top. I thought we dealt with it quite well. We conceded but I thought that was quite unfortunate.

"We showed great character to bounce back. Our last game at home against Swansea was disappointing and then you come here and you do this - that's typical of football."

Johnson also paid tribute to Reds goalkeeper Brad Jones after the game, after the shot-stopper lost his young son Luca to Leukaemia last week.

"We've had a tough week with Brad Jones and the loss of his little boy," Johnson continued. "I want to dedicate that goal to him. It's obviously a sad moment."
