League One leaders Charlton ended Huddersfield's 43-match unbeaten league run to go seven points clear.

Yann Kermorgant headed in Danny Green's free-kick to put the Addicks ahead.

Hogan Ephraim doubled their lead by reacting quickest to a rebound after Huddersfield goalkeeper Ian Bennett saved Bradley Wright-Phillips's shot.

Kermorgant then saw a header ricochet off the bar, before Peter Clarke had an effort cleared off the line in a lively second half.

Former Leicester City frontman Kermorgant gave Charlton the lead after 23 minutes, which was just the third time this season Huddersfield had conceded the first goal.

Ephraim, who is on loan from Premier League side QPR  , added to the Addicks' advantage four minutes before the break, rifling home his first goal for the club after Bennett's save.

A breathless second half saw Kermorgant and substitute Danny Ward both hit the woodwork, while Clarke's effort was cleared as the visitors pressed.

Ben Hamer pushed a well-struck Jon Parkin effort onto the post, but there was no way back for Town.

Huddersfield's 43-game run was a new Football League record.

Charlton manager Chris Powell:

"We played a very good side, who made us work very hard, but this was just another win.

"This was our 19th game and we now have 46 points - I think everyone's happy with that.

"For us to be the ones who have stopped the record is pleasing for us as a club. Maybe people will remember us now as the team that stopped Huddersfield."

Huddersfield manager Lee Clark told BBC Radio Leeds:

"For the first one (goal) we're marking the wrong side, for the second the referee is pointing for our throw, and then he all of a sudden lets the linesman over-rule him and they take a quick throw.

"My lads should be switched on. I'm not taking the pressure off them by saying it's the referee, but this was a referee who gave a controversial decision against us two years ago here, so it's not something I'm surprised about.

"I don't want to be ringing referee's bosses up and asking about the quality and standard of them, but obviously I need to have that conversation again and ask him to have a look at one or two incidents."
