Leeds winger Robert Snodgrass's late double prevented Burnley paying a winning tribute to club legend Jimmy Adamson at an emotional Turf Moor.

Jay Rodriguez headed home a 10th-minute opener on a day Burnley held a minute's applause for former skipper Adamson, who died earlier this month  .

But Snodgrass slid home Lloyd Sam's cross on 76 minutes to equalise.

And on 89 minutes, he chested the ball down at the back post to fire home a winner and send Leeds fifth.

Those two strikes spoiled what had looked like being a fitting farewell for Adamson, who spent his entire 486-game playing career at Turf Moor.

Before kick-off, supporters and a host of famous faces had paid tribute to the ex-Leeds boss, who died aged 82 on 8 November.

The pre-kick-off applause soon rang out again when Eddie Howe's side took a deserved early lead.

Kieran Trippier, on-loan from Premier League leaders Manchester City , delivered a swinging ball into the Leeds area and Rodriguez planted home his header from eight yards.

Leeds struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, though the visitors felt Burnley should have been reduced to 10 men shortly after the half-hour mark.

Home keeper Lee Grant handled outside of his area after charging out to meet a long ball and would certainly have been given a red card had referee Scott Mathieson spotted the offence.

Rodriguez and Keith Treacy could have extended Burnley's lead seconds before the break to underline their dominance, Rodriguez shooting straight at McCarthy when through and the keeper then saving a low 25-yard strike from Treacy.

The one dark moment of Burnley's otherwise encouraging first half came as striker Charlie Austin needed oxygen when he was stretchered off with a dislocated shoulder.

The Clarets continued to dominate after the interval with Treacy's long-range strike clipping the top of the Leeds woodwork.

However, their inability to kill off Leeds cost them as Snodgrass pounced twice in the last 14 minutes to record the Elland Road club's seventh win in the last eight meetings between the sides.
