Two goals from Kane Ferdinand fired table-toppers Southend to a 3-2 Essex derby win at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Ferdinand gave Southend an early lead when he slid in at the far post to turn home Ryan Hall's low left-wing cross.

Daggers levelled when debutant Cristian Montano squeezed in a low shot before Liam Dickinson swept in Bilel Mohsni's low cross to restore Southend's lead.

Dagenham equalised again after the break through Abu Ogogo's 25 yarder but Ferdinand rounded the keeper to win it.

Ferdinand skipped past Chris Lewington and finished into an empty net to earn the table-topping Shrimpers their fifth straight League Two win.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Southend United manager Paul Sturrock told BBC Essex:

"If I was the manager of Dagenham, I would be very disappointed not to have taken something out of the game. We were second best in the second half.

"But the boys are getting battle-hardened, it was a great winning goal.

"That's three, four performances that have not been to standard, but we're still churning results. We won. We live to fight another day."
