Darius Henderson scored a hat-trick as Millwall climbed out of the Championship relegation zone with a surprise victory at Leicester.

Kenny Jackett's side arrived without a league win in 10 matches but Henderson's treble halted Leicester's four-game winning home run.

The Lions led 2-0 at the break after Henderson blasted home a penalty, then tapped in a stoppage-time cross.

He made it three with a 68th-minute header from Liam Feeney's corner.

It could have been different if Sven-Goran Eriksson's side converted an opportunity in the opening minute.

Sol Bamba got on the end of a Richie Wellens corner but the defender's header was parried by Millwall goalkeeper David Forde.

The visitors looked short of confidence, with former England striker David Nugent shooting wide, then sending an overhead kick crashing over the crossbar.

It was against the run of play when Jackett's men went ahead after 36 minutes.

Bamba was adjudged to have fouled Brian Howard and Henderson converted, despite goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel getting a hand to the ball.

Wellens tested Forde from 18 yards, before Nadjim Abdou's right-wing cross caught out Leicester again, with Henderson pouncing.

  • Leicester would have moved into the top six for the first time under Sven-Goran Eriksson if they had beaten Millwall.

Eriksson replaced Yuki Abe and Jermaine Beckford with Lloyd Dyer and Darius Vassell at half-time and Leicester looked sharper after the break.

They were almost back in the game straight away but Lee Peltier's 12-yard effort struck the crossbar.

Leicester were the better side but could not take their chances - and Henderson made them pay by heading home Feeney's corner to send the Swede's team into the bottom half of the Championship table.
