Aldershot ended a run of five defeats as they hammered Dagenham & Redbridge.

Jermaine McGlashan put the Shots ahead with a close-range finish before Peter Vincenti tapped in a rebound to put the visitors 2-0 up after only six minutes.

Michael Rankine's penalty, after Mark Arber's foul, extended the lead but Jon Nurse volleyed one back for the hosts.

Luke Guttridge's header made it 4-1, Damien McCrory rifled a free-kick home to keep the Daggers in it but McGlashan sealed it late on with a 12-yard shot.

Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth told BBC Surrey:

"It was risk and reward today. We made sure that we looked after Darren Jones, Ben Herd and Danny Hylton. We couldn't have allowed them to be booked or they would have missed the game on Tuesday (Manchester United) and I would have opened myself up to some criticism with the gamble, but the gamble's paid off.

"I think the lads have done extremely well. They've put themselves in my mindset, and that's what it was for.

"But although I'm looking forward to Tuesday night, I want us to want us to really stamp our authority on the division."
