Dean Saunders' unbeaten start to life in charge of Doncaster Rovers came to abrupt end as Leeds eased to a comfortable win.

A smart finish from Danny Pugh opened the scoring, before Ross McCormack doubled the advantage with an excellent overhead kick.

Tom Lees headed home to complete the victory and move Leeds up to fifth in the Championship table.

The result leaves Doncaster 21st, a point above the relegation zone.

Rovers went in to the game on the back of two wins and a draw following the departure of Sean O'Driscoll and completed the signing of England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland on loan in midweek.

His first job was to pick the ball out of the back of the net as Pugh scored for the second successive game following his return to Leeds.

The midfielder, on loan from Stoke City, side footed home after the Doncaster defence failed to clear Robert Snodgrass's free-kick from the right.

Jon Parkin had the best chance for the home side just before the break but could only head wide.

McCormack doubled the advantage on 51 minutes, hitting an excellent overhead effort which looped over Kirkland.

Lees then added a third just after the hour, heading home after he was left unmarked from a corner.

Andy Keogh should have made it four with seven minutes to go, but after beating the keeper his effort came back off the crossbar.

Simon Grayson was celebrating his 150th game in charge of Leeds, and it was one to remember for the 41-year-old.

"It was a very good performance, very professional," he said.

"There were a lot of good things, the work rate, we pressed well and made them make mistakes.

"It wasn't far off the complete performance. We moved it round and caused them problems."

Saunders added: "I've learned more tonight than I have in the three games before and I've got to have a think about the personnel and the way we try and play.

"Have we got the right players for what I want us to do? We've lots of nice pretty footballers, but we've not got many Roy Keane types.

"If our football isn't working we struggle to resist."
