Thomas Sorensen backs Stoke to progress in Europa League
Stoke keeper Thomas Sorensen says they are in pole position to qualify from their Europa League group after a 2-1 home win against Besiktas on Thursday .
"In this competition, you need to win your home games," Sorensen told BBC Radio Stoke . "It's great to come away with three points.
"We have Maccabi Tel-Aviv at home next. It will not be easy but it's a game we have to win if we want to qualify."
The Potters are top of Group E with four points from two matches.
They followed up a 1-1 draw at Dynamo Kiev on 15 September with victory over the former Turkish champions at the Britannia Stadium.
Stoke went behind early in the first half but came from behind to win the match with goals from Peter Crouch and Jon Walters.
"They were a stern test, they've got some very good players and at times in the game they showed their quality," said the Denmark international.
"I thought we created the most chances during the game, but with their quality, we knew Simao or Ricardo Quaresma could change the game with a bit of brilliance.
"It's a fantastic win in our first home game. It puts us top of the group and in a good position.
"We're not even halfway there yet [to qualifying for the knockout stages] but it's a good start."
