Bottom-of-the-table Plymouth secured their first league win of the season against Macclesfield.

Former Oldham striker Warren Feeney gave the Pilgrims the lead, converting Connor Hourihane's cross.

The home side dominated preceedings in caretaker manager Carl Fletcher's first game in charge, with Will Atkinson firing narrowly wide before half-time.

Robbie Williams secured the points for Argyle, thumping in a 25-yard free-kick off the underside of the crossbar.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Plymouth Argyle's caretaker manager Carl Fletcher told BBC Radio Devon:

"I'm pleased for the back four, we worked hard with them in the week and I'm pleased for them to show the efforts they put in they get something out of it.

"Defensively, there are still things we want to try and tighten up.

"There are still things we can work on and get better at, but it's a good starting block."

Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester:

"To get beat how we got beat today from two set-pieces is not good really.

"I'll certainly have a look at the team selection now, for certainly home games and it could be a bit different for away games.

"Sometimes you've just got to battle it out and hang in there."
