Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Yossi Benayoun scored their first goals for Arsenal as they came from behind to beat Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury took a first-half lead through a James Collins header while Mark Wright earlier struck the post.

But Arsenal were level when Gibbs headed home Carl Jenkinson's cross.

After the break Oxlade-Chamberlain put Arsenal ahead when his 25-yard shot squirmed under Ben Smith before Benayoun converted from close range.

The result was welcome relief for beleaguered Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, whose side have made their worst start to a season since he arrived at the club.

And it looked like there was more misery to come for Wenger when the Gunners went behind after Shrewsbury got their reward for early pressure.

Having earlier struck the post through Wright's stabbed shot, Shrewsbury took the lead when Collins rose above a static Arsenal defence to head the League Two side into a deserved lead after 16 minutes.

The visiting side should have doubled their lead but Reuben Hazell headed wide when it looked easier to hit the target.

But Arsenal equalised just after the half-hour as Gibbs headed home from deep inside the penalty area for the home side.

Arsenal went ahead on 58 minutes through a bullet from the impressive Oxlade-Chamberlain.

There looked to be little danger when the 18-year-old former Southampton trainee collected the ball 25 yards out, but he promptly drilled a low strike under Smith.

With 12 minutes left, Benayoun made the tie safe when he swept home from close range following good work on the right side of the Shrewsbury penalty box by young substitute Oguzhan Ozyakup.
