Port Vale heaped more misery on troubled Plymouth with a simple win.

Vale took the lead when Marc Richards centred for Gary Roberts, who sent a fine 20-yard drive into the Argyle net.

The hosts were handed a lifeline just after the break when Richards was given a straight red for a fracas with home striker Warren Feeney.

The visitors made the points safe after Ladji Soukouna was sent off for fouling Rob Taylor in the area, Roberts slotting home the spot kick.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Plymouth Argyle manager Peter Reid told BBC Radio Devon:

"As a team we looked like a whipped dog out there. We didn't win enough tackles and there was no pace.

"We looked shell shocked to tell you the truth."

Port Vale boss Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke

"It was a deserved win, I'm pleased with the result and the performance - particularly having gone down to 10-men.

"I'm always disappointed when we have a man sent off because I think it puts an extra burden on the team, especially as there was nothing in the game at the time.

"It's never easy coming down here, regardless of any situation that Plymouth find themselves in."
