Injured Kelly Smith missing from England squad
Kelly Smith heads an injured trio missing from the England squad to face Serbia and Slovenia in September's Euro 2013 qualifiers.
The 32-year-old Boston Breakers forward, who finished the World Cup in Germany with an ankle injury, has been rested to nurse an Achilles problem.
Chelsea's Claire Rafferty and Sky Blue midfielder Anita Asante also miss out.
But Birmingham's Rachel Williams, the Women's Super League top scorer, has been called into the 22-woman squad.
Williams has scored 14 goals in 13 club games this season to give her side a chance of winning the inaugural title this Sunday and said the call-up was a surprise.
"I've been in an out of the seniors so to get that call-up after not going to the World Cup is a bit of shock," she told BBC Sport.
"When I didn't make the final squad, I thought it was just a chance to get my head down for my club and maybe try and change Hope Powell's mind so she can select me, so it's obviously paid off."
Hope Powell England coach
“No coach would ever neglect what has gone before. You have to build on what went well and improve on what didn't go so well”
Rafferty, who missed a penalty as England crashed out of the World Cup on penalties against France in July, has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while Asante has a thigh problem.
Eighteen of the 21-strong group that competed in Germany are included, while the manager Hope Powell has also selected Everton duo Fern Whelan and Natasha Dowie, and Chelsea midfielder Dani Buet.
England take on Serbia in Belgrade on Saturday 17 September before returning home to host Slovenia at Swindon Town's County Ground five days later, and Powell believes she has picked the right squad to get their Euro qualifying campaign off to a positive start.
"Every coach would always like more depth, be it at club or international level, but I'm really pleased that we've got a good blend in the squad and have had for a while now," she said.
"There are a few players in this squad who weren't at the World Cup and they've all done well recently and all deserve their call-up. These next two matches will give us an opportunity to have another look at them in an England environment.
"It's a new campaign but we have to build on our previous experiences, both at the World Cup and in the victories over the United States and Sweden. No coach would ever neglect what has gone before - you have to build on what went well and improve on what didn't go so well.
"We've got some information on both Serbia and Slovenia that we can work with and I think our previous experiences will help us in that double header. Hopefully we can start off on the right foot."
