A double from defender Mark McLaughlin secured Hamilton victory on the opening day of the new season at Ayr.

Micheal McGowan had given the home side the perfect start after eight minutes, driving home from inside the box.

McLaughlin levelled, meeting Douglas Imrie's inswinging corner to head home after 28 minutes.

McLaughlin struck again just before the hour mark, once more meeting an inswinging Imrie corner to head the ball past a helpless Kevin Cuthbert.
