Jonathan Woodgate made his first appearance in a Stoke City shirt in the Potters' 1-0 pre-season friendly defeat at Aldershot.

Woodgate played for just over an hour before being replaced by German international Robert Huth.

The only goal of Saturday's game came on 81 minutes when Aldershot substitute Adam Mekki slotted past Carlo Nash.

It was Stoke's second pre-season defeat in less than 24 hours, after losing 1-0 at Brentford on Friday night.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis made 11 changes from the team that played at Griffin Park.

Next up for Stoke is their Europa League third qualifiying round first leg tie against Hadjuk Split at the Britannia Stadium on Thursday night.
