Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as first-team coach and are also set to wrap up the signing of George Boateng.

Former Chelsea striker Hasselbaink, 39, has now put pen to paper but midfielder Boateng, 35, still needs to pass a medical before his move is finalised.

Forest boss Steve McClaren signed the Dutch duo as players while he was Middlesbrough manager.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham : "They're experienced people so we're delighted."

McClaren added: "We need experience and we need more men in the team. We now have Jonathan Greening , Boateng and Guy Moussi . Hopefully that's the start of it [signings]."

Former Netherlands international Boateng has a wealth of Premier League experience, having played 14 consecutive seasons in England's top flight.

Boateng first joined Coventry and has also played for Aston Villa and Hull as well as Boro.

He was at Skoda Xanthi in Greece last season and has been training with Forest.

Hasselbaink enjoyed a goal-laden career in England, most notably with Chelsea, where he scored 88 goals during a four-season stint from 2000 to 2004.

Hasslebaink retired in 2008 and had a spell working as part of McClaren's coaching team while the former England boss was FC Twente boss .
