Notts County boss Martin Allen is still looking to add to his squad.
Allen has bought in a number of players over the summer including
Jeff Hughes from Bristol Rovers
Charlie from Dagenham
"I think the players we've bought in so far have improved us but I still think we need a couple more key signings," Allen told BBC East Midlands Today.
"You'd have to be mad to think the team didn't need major surgery after what happened last season.
Allen added: "Having said that the people we have here at the moment are good people, good players."
The Magpies boss was speaking as his side returned for pre-season training.
He said sessions were more advanced than some people might remember it.

“The days of the cross country are old hat now”
"It's far more modern now, we've got some interns in from university," he said.
"Most footballers will train through the summer now, so the old conception of pre-season isn't really there anymore.

Despite only returning to training on Wednesday the Magpies begin their pre-season matches with a trip to newly reformed Ilkeston FC on Saturday.
The former Barnet, Brentford and MK Dons boss is looking forward to his side getting back out on the pitch.
"It'll be great for our fans to see our new signings and for our players to get back into it," he said.
"The players will only do 45 minutes so it's not going to be too strenuous.
"I just want them to get the ball down pass it around and make it a nice spectacle.
