Ex-Oldham defender Reuben Hazell joins Shrewsbury Town
Former Oldham captain Reuben Hazell has joined Shrewsbury after offering his services to manager Graham Turner.
The 32 year-old decided he wanted to play for the Shrews after watching their play-off defeat against Torquay last season.
"I phoned Graham Turner and spoke to him about watching the play-off game," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"I thought they needed more experience and I thought of myself."
He added: "Ian Sharps was injured and a young lad came on, it stuck in my mind."
Hazell turned down a new deal with Oldham to join Town on a two-year contract.
"I knew my contract was up at Oldham and Shrewsbury is close to me, I think the club's really going places," he added.
Midfielder Steve Leslie, 23, has signed a new contract keeping him at the Greenhous Meadow on the day the Shrews start pre-season training.
