European Dressage: Laura Tomlinson to miss championships

Great Britain's Olympic medal-winning pairing of Laura Tomlinson and Mistral Hojris have been ruled out of the European Dressage Championships.

The horse has been withdrawn with a "slight injury", the British Equestrian Federation said.

Tomlinson (formerly Bechtolsheimer) and Mistral Hojris were part of the gold medal-wining team at London 2012 and also took individual bronze.

Gareth Hughes, riding DV Stenkjers Madonna, will replace Tomlinson.

Michael Eilberg and Tomlinson's fellow London 2012 team gold medallists Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester make up the quartet for Denmark next week, when Britain will be defending their 2011 European title.

British Equestrian performance director Will Connell said: "Mistral Hojris has been at the forefront of British dressage and for Great Britain.

"All within Great Britain owe Laura, Mistral Hojris and the Bechtolsheimer's a huge debt of gratitude, and this decision has been made with the welfare of the horse in mind."

Tomlinson said on Twitter: "Gutted to pull out, but I know it's the right thing to do for Alf. To compete now would be greedy. I wish @TeamGBR all the best for next week."
