Tom Daley criticism 'strange', says Karen Pickering

Former world champion swimmer Karen Pickering says recent public criticism of Tom Daley from the head of British swimming and the Team GB diving coach is "strange".

Daley and his diving partner Peter Waterfield finished a disappointing seventh in the final of the 10m platform synchronised event at the World Cup event at London's Olympic Aquatic centre on Thursday.

Team GB diving coach Alexei Evangulov has warned Daley that he risks missing out on an Olympic medal if he does not cut down on his media work, comments backed by the British Swimming chief executive David Sparkes.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live Weekend Breakfast, Pickering argues that the culture of training for diving in the UK is "very different" to countries like Russia and China - and that Daley can still reach his full potential in time for London 2012.
