Jordanne Whiley relishing Nottingham Open

Wimbledon champions Jordanne Whiley, Yui Kamiji, Stephane Houdet and Shingo Kunieda are among those competing at the 25th British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Nottingham next week.

The six-day event, starting on Tuesday, is one of six with Super Series status, the next highest outside of the Slams.

Whiley said: "On the back of an amazing victory in front of a home crowd at Wimbledon, I'm really excited."

Local interest comes from Bingham's British number three David Phillipson.

A semi-finalist at last October's Nottingham Indoor tournament after beating world number seven Michael Jeremiasz of France, Phillipson is playing this week's Swiss Open in Geneva ahead of launching his latest British Open challenge at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

Britain's Birmingham-born world number five Whiley added: "I hope that people who saw us on TV at Wimbledon will come out and support us in Nottingham and watch some tremendous tennis once again."
