Match scorecard

Surrey and Kent played out an astonishing tie in a thrilling match.

The hosts, chasing 315 to win, were struggling on 250-7 when Arun Harinath was dismissed by James Tredwell (2-42).

Big hitting from Azhar Mahmood and Zafar Ansari helped guide Surrey to the brink of victory, but Gareth Batty was unable to get the crucial run from the final two balls of the innings.

Earlier, Sam Billings led the way for Kent, smashing six sixes in a destructive 42-ball 87.

He was ably supported by Sam Northeast (63) and Fabian Cowdrey (75) as they tore into the Surrey attack, with the notable exception of the excellent Chris Tremlett (4-38).

Stephen Davies got the home side's response off to a blistering start, hitting 10 fours in his 52-ball 58 and Vikram Solanki's fine 83 kept them on track.

After a mini-collapse, Mahmood and Ansari seemed to have won the game for Surrey.

Ansari blasted two sixes in the final over bowled by Mitch Claydon, but Batty missed the fifth ball and then drove the last ball straight to mid-off where Tredwell was able to gather and run Batty out.

Surrey captain Gary Wilson:

"I would happily have taken a point with four overs to go, but then with one run needed for victory from the last two balls, I thought we were home in a boat.

"It was actually quite a hard pitch to start your innings on, but five of our guys got in and got out before Zafar's last-over effort.

"Vikram Solanki's 83 was a great effort, though, especially as he was not feeling that well out there."
