Match scorecard

Peter Trego struck an unbeaten 107 as Somerset added 149 for the last two wickets to keep their match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge alive.

Resuming day three on 106-3, needing another 187 to make Notts bat again, the visitors slumped to 253-8 to leave them on the brink of an innings defeat.

But Trego, supported by George Dockrell (26) and Jamie Overton (50), lifted Somerset to 402 all out.

Notts closed on 66-3, requiring 44 more runs on the final day for victory.

However, they suffered a major wobble in the first over of their reply, slipping to 0-2 after losing both Steven Mullaney and James Taylor to Craig Overton (3-23).

But Samit Patel's breezy 41 from 30 deliveries before holing out to Overton ensured Nottinghamshire will head into the fourth day as firm favourites to win.

The game had looked to be heading towards its conclusion long before the all-rounder's late flourish, only for Trego's eye-catching innings, which included 10 fours and two sixes, to temporarily change the course of the match.

Craig Kieswetter also contributed with 54 to help Somerset towards their more respectable total of 402, having managed just 168 in the first innings.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle:

"This was a tough day in the field for Nottinghamshire as the visitors displayed their traditional fighting spirit.

"Peter Trego is a useful player for any side with their backs to the wall, and he found some willing support from the lower order.

"Nevertheless, a couple of frustrating stands and then a nervy start to the run chase should all be forgotten by midday tomorrow though, with another 24-point haul not far away for Notts."
