Ian Bell plundered his second century in three games as Warwickshire took command on the first day against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The stand-in Bears skipper made 122, backed by Will Porterfield's 56, as the visitors were bowled out for 263, Andy Carter taking 5-55 for Notts.

Warwickshire then dominated with the ball too, Chris Wright taking 3-7 in eight overs as Notts closed on 43-6.

Chris Barker and Oliver Hannon-Dalby claimed a wicket apiece too.

But the final dismissal of the day was the loss of Luke Fletcher, run out cheaply, by Jeetan Patel.

Samit Patel was the only Notts batsman to make double figures, still there at the close on 16.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle:

"After an abject end to the day - topped off by the most comical of run-outs, the only Nottinghamshire positives centre upon the bowling.

"Once again, the wickets were shared - and Peter Siddle broke his duck for the county - but the biggest plus is again the form and fitness of Andy Carter.

"The big fast bowler, good enough to have played for the England Lions, missed most of last season with a stress fracture in his back.

"Healthy again, he claimed his first five-wicket haul for Notts and showed what his side have been missing. He may now need to deliver with the bat also."
