Northants' batsmen added 191 runs to their first-innings total on day three at Cardiff, leaving their match with Glamorgan heading towards a draw.
After the second day's play was decimated by rain, Niall O'Brien added to his century before being dismissed for 182 off 462 deliveries.
David Murphy made 54 for the visitors before being stumped by Glamorgan wicketkeeper Mark Wallace.
Northants eventually declared on 432-8 and the hosts reached 10-0 at close.
