Anthony McGrath scored his 35th first-class century as Yorkshire took the upper hand against Derbyshire.
The hosts resumed on 127-2 and claimed maximum batting points as McGrath hit 104 and was assisted by Adam Lyth (93), Gary Ballance (79) and Andy Hodd (58).
Wes Durston took 5-34 as Yorkshire were dismissed for 420.
Derbyshire closed 392 behind on 28-1, Tim Bresnan, who was released by England and earlier made one with the bat, taking the wicket to fall.
