England were soundly beaten - Andrew Strauss

Captain Andrew Strauss says England were "soundly beaten" by South Africa after falling to an innings-and-12-run defeat in the first Test at The Oval.

England slipped to a first Test defeat at home since 2010, despite Ian Bell's dogged 55 from 220 balls and wicketkeeper Matt Prior's 40.

However Strauss, speaking to BBC Sport's Jonathan Agnew, said his side could come back from the defeat and win the series.
