Charl Willoughby's four-wicket haul proved in vain as Essex had to settle for a draw with Glamorgan.
Resuming the final day on 5-0, Essex declared on 166-9, with Tom Westley making 52, to set the hosts 239 to win, Huw Waters taking 5-47.
Glamorgan, now the only Division Two side without a win this season, slumped to 37-4 and 79-5 before closing on 99-5, Willoughby finishing with 4-33.
Mark Wallace (26no) ensured a draw but the hosts are now adrift at the bottom.
