With the series level at 2-2, the fifth and final ODI at Old Trafford becomes a winner-takes-all match. England captain Alastair Cook wins the toss and chooses to bat, having dropped Stuart Broad and brought in Samit Patel
Cook and opening partner Craig Kieswetter plunder an impressive 75 from the opening powerplay as England take advantage of some sloppy bowling from the tourists
With the two batsmen set, England take the batting powerplay in the 12th over. However, a flurry of wickets stall their progress - with Cook, Kieswetter and Kevin Pietersen all falling in quick succession
Jonathan Trott and Eoin Morgan keep the score ticking over and rebuild the innings, each posting fifties to put England in a strong position of 202-3 with 15 overs to go
However, any hope of a massive total fades away when Morgan's dismissal sparks a collapse. Graeme Swann is the last man to go as England finish on 268-9, still a testing target though
England take to the field and make a superb start in the second over when debutant Dimuth Karunaratne edges Tim Bresnan to Trott at slip
Bresnan takes the wicket of Sri Lankan captain Tillakaratne Dilshan in his second over, and when Anderson dismisses veteran Mahela Jayawardene for nine the tourists are in trouble on 27-3
Dinesh Chandimal puts on 94 with Kumar Sangakkara, hitting some lusty blows in the process, before he is dismissed for 54. The partnership steadies the visitors, but their required run-rate is beginning to creep up
Bresnan bowls Sangakkara leaving two new batsmen at the crease. However Angelo Mathews and Jeevan Mendis steadily score runs to put their side back in the frame, needing 73 off the last ten overs
The game swings back in England's favour when Mendis is dismissed, and two more batsmen are removed in the next over. But incoming batsmen Malinga hits a six off his first ball to leave Sri Lanka needing 17 from two overs
Jade Dernbach steps up to bowl the final over and he finishes the match off in style, bowling a superb slower ball to lure Mathews into chipping into the hands of Bresnan, and the next ball a yorker to bowl Malinga
England wrap up the series 3-2, with new captain Alastair Cook taking man of the series. England will now look to their series with India, while Sri Lanka head to Edinburgh to take on Scotland and Ireland
