Glasgow 2014: Alex Gladkov hails crowd after earning bronze medal

Bloodied but delighted Scottish wrestler Alex Gladkov says home support carried him to a Commonwealth Games bronze medal in the 65kg category.

Scotland's second wrestling medal was secured after a 22-16 win over Sri Lanka's Chamara Perera.

"It was one of the hardest fights I've ever had and to win is just amazing," Gladkov told BBC Scotland.

"I'm exhausted but the crowd really helped. If it wasn't for their support I probably wouldn't have won."

Gladkov was smiling broadly despite a cut on his lip and damaged knee, which flared up in his first round fight in Glasgow.

"It was an injury I'd been trying to heal for the last seven weeks," he explained. "Now it's come back but I don't know how bad it is because of all the adrenalin and the blood."

On Wednesday, Viorel Etko won Scotland's first wrestling medal at the Commonwealth Games since 1994, beating Adam Vella of Malta in the 61kg freestyle category.
