Enzo Maccarinelli returns with first-round win

Former world champion Enzo Maccarinelli needed only 91 seconds to secure a debut win at light-heavyweight on his return to the ring.

The Welsh boxer has dropped down from cruiserweight to rebuild his career and made light work of previously unbeaten opponent Gyorgy Marosi at York Hall.

Maccarinelli rocked the Hungarian with the first left hook he landed.

An accurate combination inflicted further damage, and the referee stepped in to end the fight moments later.

Marosi, 34, had won all of his 12 pro fights, with eight coming by knockout, but has only fought outside his native Hungary twice - each time in neighbouring Slovakia.

And he looked woefully out of his depth as Maccarinelli sought to impress after a 14-month absence.

Victory for the 31-year-old Maccarinelli (33-5-0) could pave the way for a bout with Ovil McKenzie for the Commonwealth light-heavyweight title.

That in turn could be another stepping stone towards an all-Welsh clash with unbeaten WBO champion Nathan Cleverly .

Swansea's Maccarinelli has promised to become the first Welshman to regain a world title.
