Newcastle Eagles player-coach Fab Flournoy says his side still feel their defeat by Leicester Riders in 2013's BBL Cup final, but it is not their focus heading into Sunday's rematch.

The Riders led for most of last year's clash, but the Eagles fought back to level the scores with 90 seconds left.

But Leicester pulled away to win 85-80.

"It's more about getting this group of guys to come into their own so they can create their own legacy within the Eagles," Flournoy told BBC Look North.

"This year has been different as there have been a lot of new players coming into the team.

"But I've really enjoyed seeing some of the guys grow into new roles within the team."

The Eagles brought Stuart Thomson, Malik Cooke, Paul Gause and Drew Lasker onto the roster for the 2013-14 season.

After an inconsistent start, they now sit fourth in the BBL Championship, four points, and two places behind Leicester. The sides are yet to meet this term.

But the BBL Cup is one of three trophies the Riders are defending this season and captain Barry Lamble told BBC East Midlands Today they were looking forward to the challenge.

"We're back in the cup final, defending the title, and we know it will be a very tough game," he said. "I'm looking forward to the occasion.

"Having fun is a key factor. If you're not enjoying playing it's pointless being here in the first place but we love what we're doing and we want to make sure we get to every cup.

"I'd like to think we're going to win but it's a tough game. Newcastle are a great team."
