Corinne Abraham wins Ironman European title in Frankfurt

Great Britain's Corinne Abraham won the Ironman European Championships in Frankfurt with the third fastest ever course time.

The professional long-distance triathlete, 36, finished the event in eight hours 52 minutes and 40 seconds.

The Ironman event  combines a 3.8km (2.4-mile) swim course, an 180km (112-mile) bike race and a 42.19km (26.21-mile) run.

Fellow Briton Jodie Swallow finished 16 minutes behind in seventh place.

Abraham  crossed the line almost four minutes ahead of USA's Liz Lyles in second place.

Her European title follows last year's Ironman victory at the Asia Pacific Championships in Melbourne.
