London 2012: Alex Smith out to better father's Olympic throw

Hammer thrower Alex Smith intends to throw further than his father Dave managed at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.

The Hull man told BBC Look North: "It feels great to be in the Olympics like he was and hopefully I'll do better than he did.

"He didn't do so well there. He did 69 metres on the qualifying and I'm hoping to do better than that, get a PB and make the final.

"He likes to bring up that he's got a futher PB than me."
