Plenty happening in the Australian Open, with fourth seed David Ferrer overturning a two-set deficit against compatriot Nicolas Almagro to advance to the semi-finals, where he will play the winner of Novak Djokovic against Tomas Berdych which we will keep you up to date with when it begins later this morning.
The Williams sisters have gone out in the doubles, losing in the last eight to top seeds Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani, the pairing they beat 6-1 6-1 at last year's Olympics and on court now glamorous Russian Maria Sharapova has won the first set against left-hander Ekaterina Makarova, with live commentary on that match on 5 live sports extra now.

Now for a look at some items from today's BBC Sport Gossip Column and Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is confident of signing Wilfried Zaha, 20, for £12m from Crystal Palace by the end of the week, with the aim of loaning the winger back to the Championship club for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, United striker Federico Macheda, 21, is poised to join Elche on loan, according to the Spanish club's president Jose Sepulchre. (Talksport)

A look at some stories from around the world now, courtesy of our friends at BBC Monitoring and with the Africa Cup of Nations in full swing the African press is full of praise for the the Ethiopian team, who held defending champions Zambia to a 1-1 draw, despite going down to 10 men in the first half of what the All Africa website called "easily the most entertaining game" of the tournament so far.
Kenya's Daily Nation noted that Ethiopia - a founder nation of the tournament - had experienced something of a footballing resurgence of late. The paper also observed that the 40,000 seat Mbombela stadium was only a quarter full "with barely a Zambian fan in sight".

Manchester United defender Phil Jones says the Premier League leaders can recover quickly from their setback against Tottenham. United's lead at the top of the table was reduced to five points after they were held to a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
"Confidence is high but we know we still have to produce and do our job every time we step out on the pitch," said Jones. "As long as we're focused on what we've got to do and on our game-plan hopefully we'll be okay."
The United squad are in Qatar this week for a warm-weather training camp ahead of their FA Cup fourth-round tie with Fulham on Saturday.

"After 46 games and two-and-a-half years in the Nancy shirt, Massadio Haidara is leaving for Newcastle," said a statement on the Nancy website. "The two clubs have reached an agreement and will finalise the transfer on Tuesday."

BBC Sport's Ben Smith on Manchester United's pursuit of Wilfried Zaha says the two clubs will hold further talks in the next 24 hours as they work towards concluding a deal for England winger.
"United are understood to be willing to pay £12m for Zaha and will would then loan him back to the Championship club for the rest of the season," said Smith. "Both clubs have refused to comment on a proposed deal for the 20-year-old. But an agreement could be reached by the end of the week for a player who won his first England cap against Sweden in November."

Manchester United have defended their ticket pricing policy ahead of Saturday's FA Cup fourth round tie against Fulham at Old Trafford. The London club have complained to the Football Association after discovering that some United fans have been able to purchase seats equivalent to those on offer to Fulham supporters £5 cheaper.
As is common practice for FA Cup games, the clubs had agreed a standard price of £45 for home and away fans but United members have been able to purchase them at a discounted rate of £40.
"Fulham fans are paying the same as United fans who are not members," said a United spokesman."A discount scheme has existed for members for around 20 years. We're surprised it has come as a surprise to them."

Materazzi played under Benitez at Inter and is quoted as calling him "weak". The 39-year-old also claimed Benitez took down pictures of former boss Jose Mourinho from the dressing room.
"Marco Materazzi is lying. Everything that he said is a lie," Benitez said.
