    PARALYMPICS

BBC Sport's Elizabeth Hudson at the North Greenwich Arena: "Canada are taking control of this men's wheelchair basketball semi-final against Great Britain and are 57-37 ahead going into the final quarter. Canada have the sharper offence and the combination of Patrick Anderson and Joey Johnson are causing much of the damage and unless GB can get their act together, it will be the bronze medal play-off against the USA for them."

  5. 2223:
    PARALYMPICS

BBC Sport's Saj Chowdhury at the Olympic Stadium: "It's F44 discus silver for British four-time Paralympian Dan Greaves, having earlier broken the Paralympics record in the third round to take the lead. Favourite Jeremy Campbell bettered Greaves's 59.01m with 60.05m to take gold."

  6. 2213:
    PARALYMPICS

David Weir, speaking after winning a third London Paralympic gold in the men's T54 800m final: "I had to dig deep tonight, it did hurt. I feel like I'm on top of the world at the moment.

"I dreamt about it and wished I'd come away with three gold medals, with maybe another one on the way, but you just dream of things like that. I won't believe it until I'm at home and can relax - then it might sink in a little bit more."

Weir goes for a fourth gold in the marathon on Sunday.

  7. 2207:
    PARALYMPICS

Jonnie Peacock, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live after winning T44 100m gold: "This is absolutely amazing. To go in front of so many people here was crazy. I hadn't been able to sleep in the three nights before this. I knew I had potential coming into this, I would have liked to have ran a little quicker but it was enough in the end.

"This will live with me forever, I could not have wished for better. It is such a relief because the last year has just been one huge build up."

  9. 2201:
    FOOTBALL

Scotland under-21s keep alive their European qualifying hopes with a 3-0 win over Luxembourg at St Mirren Park.

GB started well but the Canadians have taken a bit of a grip on the game and GB need to be smart."

BBC Sport's Saj Chowdhury at the Olympic Stadium: "What a performance! Pre-race favourite Jonnie Peacock wins the T44 100m title in a Paralympic record time of 10.90. It was billed Oscar Pistorius v Peacock, but the South African face of the Games made a poor start, finishing fourth."

The GB team won bronze in both Athens and Beijing, but if they want to reach the decider they will have to keep a close eye on Canada's Patrick Anderson, the best player in the world!"

  17. 2124:
    PARALYMPICS

BBC Sport's Saj Chowdhury at the Olympic Stadium: "It's another gold for David Weir but, oh my, was he made to work for that one. China's Zhang Lixin had the lead with 80 metres remaining, while Swiss athlete Marcel Hug was also closing fast, but the 33-year-old from Wallington just had too much pace for them in the final 30 metres. Another epic race in the Olympic Stadium. Peacock v Pistorius next."

And it's as you were in the US Open quarter-final between David Ferrer and Janko Tipsarevic. Ferrer squanders four break points in the 10th game which means the second set must be decided by a tie-break, which goes the Serbian's way 7-6 (7-5) to ensure it's all square at one set all.

  21. 2106:

Olympique Marseille midfielder Joey Barton will serve the remaining nine games of his 12-match ban in France after joining the club on a one-year loan from QPR.

  23. 2059:
    FOOTBALL

Belgian FA vice-president Philippe Collin thinks new Chelsea signing Eden Hazard needs "a kick up the ass" in a bid to improve his game. Collin believes the midfielder needs to make improvements to his all-round game - for both club and country.

He tells Nieuwsblad: "He has technique, explosiveness and positioning. At some point he will have to work on defending, and he has no choice with that.

"But I have confidence that Belgium manager Marc Wilmots will occasionally give him a kick up his ass. The learning process is slow but good. If (Lionel) Messi should work for the team and defend, then I see no reason why Hazard should not do likewise."

The Paralympic spirit is in full force at the Olympic Stadium as Brazil's Yohannsson Nascimento stubbornly refuses to give up despite pulling up injured in the T46 100m.

The 24-year-old, a gold medal contender, saw his dreams ended early in the race by an apparent hamstring injury but, fighting back tears and to huge roars from the crowd, Nascimento hauled himself to his feet and limped agonisingly slowly toward the line.

The cheers grew louder as the capacity crowd sought to urge him forward through each small, painful step. He collapsed to the ground as he crossed the line and was taken off the track in a wheelchair. China's Zhao Xu took the gold medal, but there was no doubt who won the crowd's hearts.

  27. 2032:
    FOOTBALL

Stuart Pearce is hopeful his England side have done enough to set up a place in the Uefa Under-21 Championship play-offs following today's 2-0 victory in Azerbaijan.

The victory sends Pearce's men five points clear at the top of qualifying Group Eight with one match remaining. That is on Monday against Norway, who need to beat England to deny their rivals a place in next month's two-legged play-offs.

Pearce says: "We are pleased to have won the match and hopefully that puts us in a situation that sees us in the play-offs. We gave our best. We've played better, but this was my strongest team available."

Arsene Wenger claims spending controls in the Premier League will help establish the "real size" of clubs.

The Arsenal boss says measures such as Uefa's financial fair play rules - where clubs can only spend what they earn - should be introduced. The rules would effectively prevent wealthy benefactors injecting huge amounts of cash into a club to buy success - as has happened with Chelsea and Manchester City.

Wenger says: "You should just get the resources you generate, that will determine the real size of the club. I personally am a long-time defender of financial fair play because I believe in the strength of purely football."
