British sprinter Richard Kilty confirms he will definitely appeal against non-selection in 200m and 4x100m relay for this summer's Olympic Games. "The news was broken to me on the phone by the relay coach Tony Lester. It was literally two minutes before it was announced to the public. I was losing sleep and waiting all day for the phone call. To be honest with you, I thought I was going to be selected," he said. "I'm definitely going to appeal. It will be in by tomorrow morning." Four-time Wimbledon winner Serena Williams after her victory over defending champion Petra Kvitova: "I had a good talk with my dad, he motivated me, and my sister [Venus, herself a five-time Wimbledon champion] as well. I had a talk with Patrick [Mouratoglou, her coach] too. It was great. All three of those got me really motivated to do better and be the player that I know I can be. I just took to heart what everyone said. I really prayed about it, just to have calmness of mind and just go forward and do the best I can do, whether that's winning or losing."

Champions Manchester City will prepare for the new season at a training camp in Seefeld, western Austria, during which time they will play three friendlies. Roberto Mancini's side will play Saudi club Al Hilal on 13 July in Innsbruck, German second division side Dynamo Dresden on 17 July and Turkish top flight side Besiktas on 20 July at the same venue.

The Scottish Professional Footballers' Association say they are "dismayed" by comments from newco Rangers owner Charles Green that he will pursue legal claims against the Rangers players who refused to join his new company. "Whilst it is accepted that newco is entitled to argue breach of contract, the Players Union is dismayed that attempts are being made to prevent our members from playing professional football simply because they have exercised their legal right not to transfer to newco," read a PFA Scotland statement.

Former captains Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara hit hundreds to help Sri Lanka to 278-5 against Pakistan at stumps on day four of the second test at Sinhalese Sports Club. Resuming from an overnight score of 70-1 (and in response to Pakistan's 551-6 declared) Dilshan and Sangakkara added 225 runs for the second wicket. After the stand was broken, there was a rush of wickets as Sri Lanka lost four for just 42 runs.

Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala criticise Uefa after the governing body judge the team's home province of Dagestan unsafe for Europa League matches. Anzhi entered Uefa's competition by finishing fifth in the Russian league last season, after signing Samuel Eto'o and Roberto Carlos, and hiring Guus Hiddink as coach. It must now find another Russian stadium to host a second qualifying round match on 19 July against Flamurtari Vlore of Albania or Honved of Hungary. "Such decisions of the Uefa executive committee contradict the values claimed by Uefa," Anzhi general director Aivaz Kaziakhmedov wrote in an open letter to Uefa President Michel Platini published on the club's website. "Anzhi is ready to provide all necessary documentary guarantees from the due state bodies."

Gloucestershire agree a short-term deal with Australia batsman Ed Cowan, subject to visa approval. The county want the left-hander to fill the gap between the departure of New Zealander Kane Williamson and the arrival, later this month, of his compatriot Rob Nichol. I played him four weeks ago on a clay court and now I will play with him on a grass court. He's the favourite player [to win] because he's better than me, and tomorrow I will try to do my best. I will have to play my best tennis to beat him. It's very difficult to beat Andy on all surfaces, but on a grass court it is more difficult."

Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has beaten American Mardy Fish 4-6 7-6 6-4 6-4 in a rain-delayed match to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the third year running. Fifth seed Tsonga lost the opening set on Monday before play was abandoned but returned at lunchtime on Tuesday to beat Fish.

Wiggins' Team Sky did suffer a blow during the third stage of the Tour as Kanstantsin Siutsou becoming the first of 198 starters to abandon the event after injuring himself during a crash. Jose Joaquin Rojas (Movistar) was also forced to withdraw later in the stage following a second crash.

Slovakia's Peter Sagan won the third stage of the Tour de France earlier - his second stage win of this year's event. But Britain's Bradley Wiggins remains second, despite being affected by a crash late in the stage. The Tour's 3km rule means Wiggins's time was not harmed by the crash, which happened 300m from the finish line. As a result, he stays seven seconds behind overall leader Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland.

Manchester United will return to Hannover for the first time since 1965 to play the final match of their pre-season tour.
Their match against Hannover will take place on 11 August at the AWD Arena, and will be played for the Chevrolet Cup.
"All matches for our pre-season tour are now finalised and I am delighted we will be ending the tour with a match against Hannover 96," says chief executive David Gill. "Germany is a great footballing nation and we are looking forward to playing in front of our many fans in that region."

Recently retired Scotland international Chris Paterson describes the honour of receiving an MBE from the Queen as a moment to remember for the rest of his life. The 34-year-old won 109 caps for Scotland and scored 809 points in the process, both record-breaking figures, and was recognised for his services to sport by being awarded his MBE today.
"You feel a wee bit guilty, you don't know if you deserve it or not," he says. "You never set out looking to achieve anything like this, so I suppose the big thing is to try to enjoy it and remember it for the rest of your life."

"There is no two-tier team, we will absolutely treat every athlete in the same way. We'll give every athlete the same support and I expect every athlete in a similar way to commit to being part of Team GB and everything that stands up for."
On whether he was concerned other athletes might not embrace the duo in the same way, Hunt adds: "No I'm not worried about that at all. I think we've been very clear, we will embrace any athlete into the team.
"They were welcomed into the team and will be given the best support and hopefully achieve the best performance possible. I'm very happy about that."

Striker Grant Holt says he is happy to have his long-term future sorted after agreeing a new three-year deal with Norwich today.

He says: "It was very difficult because she has a proven track record, she's an absolutely world class athlete. However, she hasn't raced since the world championships in Daegu and not raced this year, and she had every intention to compete in Helsinki, but after travelling her Achilles reacted badly and she was not able to compete. That was a very important factor.
The anticipation that athletes may appeal doesn't affect any decision."

Team Sky suffer their first setback of the Tour de France as Kanstantsin Siutsou decides to abandon during the 197km third stage.
Sivtsov, one of Sky's support riders for yellow jersey contender Bradley Wiggins, is one of several riders caught up in a crash just after the Cote de l'Eperche around 140 km into the race.
He becomes the first of the 198-strong peloton to abandon this year's race, which ends in Paris on July 22.

Formula 1 team Marussia F1 release a statement updating test driver Maria de Villota's situation.
The 32-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash during testing in Cambridgeshire this morning.
"Further to the accident involving the Marussia F1 Team's Test Driver Maria de Villota this morning, the team can confirm that Maria was transferred by ambulance from Duxford Airfield, where the accident happened, to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge," the statement read.
"Since Maria's arrival at the hospital at approximately 10.45hrs this morning, she has been receiving the best medical attention possible at the hospital, which is the region's major trauma centre. Maria is conscious and medical assessments are ongoing. The team will await the outcome of these assessments before providing further comment.
"The team's first priority at this time is Maria and her family."

Tottenham's decision to appoint Andre Villas-Boas ends weeks of speculation following Harry Redknapp's departure and chairman Daniel Levy believes the former Chelsea manager is the right choice for the club.
"I am delighted that Andre has agreed to become our new head coach," he says. "He has an outstanding reputation for his technical knowledge of the game and for creating well-organised teams capable of playing football in an attractive and attacking style.
"Andre shares our long-term ambitions and ethos of developing players and nurturing young talent, and he will be able to do so now at a new world class training centre."

Team GB head coach Charles van Commenee has been speaking about the selection of the representative for Team GB in the women's 800m.
Lynsey Sharp is picked with 2009 world bronze medallist Jenny Meadows missing out. Marilyn Okoro, Emma Jackson and Jemma Simpson were other 800m contenders hoping to run in the women's event.
"After all the deliberation, thoughts and arguments, it was decided most important is to have the right performance at the right time," said Van Commenee. "Lots of people have the right performance at the wrong time. Lynsey Sharp has done very good business recently and performed at the trials, beat everybody, and did well at the European Championships. We decided Sharp is the one with the best current form.
"This is difficult because not one of them took control of their own destiny. They made it difficult by not doing what they were supposed to do. The panel is convinced the one selected has the best chance at performing at thee Games."

Spanish seventh seed David Ferrer reaches his first Wimbledon quarter-final at the 10th time of asking after beating Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro 6-3 6-2 6-3. Ferrer will meet Andy Murray for a place in the semi-finals.

"Tottenham Hotspur are a great club with a strong tradition and fantastic support, both at home and throughout the world. I feel privileged to become coach," he says.
"This is one of the most exciting coaching positions in the Premier League. I have had several discussions with the chairman [Daniel Levy] and the board and I share their vision for the future progress of the club. This is a squad any coach would love to work with and together I believe we can bring success in the seasons ahead."

A total of 71 athletes are added to the six previously named marathon runners to complete the GB athletics squad at London 2012.
They include gold medal hopes Jessica Ennis (heptathlon and 100m hurdles), Dai Greene (400m hurdles), Mo Farah (5,000m and 10,000m), Christine Ohuruogu (400m) and Phillips Idowu (triple jump).
Adam Gemilli, 18, is the youngest member of the squad and one of three athletes picked for the men's 100m alongside James Dasaolu, 24 and Chambers.

Dwain Chambers, who will compete in the 100m and 4 x 100m relay, says: "It is a real honour to be selected as part of Team GB today.

Sprinter Dwain Chambers is included in Team GB's athletics squad for the Olympic Games in London.
He can compete after the British Olympic Association policy of lifetime bans for drug cheats was overturned.
Chambers, 34, won the Olympic trials on 23 June, but did not run in the 100m at the European Athletics Championships.
Only one woman, Lynsey Sharp, is picked for the 800m with 2009 world bronze medallist Jenny Meadows among those to miss out.

Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala express their disappointment at Uefa's decision to make the club host Europa League games away from Dagestan.
Anzhi, who have become famous for their lavish spending which has seen the likes of Samuel Eto'o, Roberto Carlos and Guus Hiddink brought to the club, will feature in this year's Europa League after finishing fifth in the league. However, the Uefa Executive Committee has ruled that the club will not be allowed to play in Dagestan over security issues in the region.
"On behalf of the football club Anzhi I say that we were deeply sorry to accept the UEFA Executive committee's decision about the impossibility of conducting the Europa League matches with our team's participation in our native city Makhachkala," general director Aivaz Kaziakhmedov told the club's official website.

His match against Marin Cilic on Court 1 was suspended on Monday in the second set because of showers and was delayed on Tuesday because of more rain.

The accident happened at the end of her first installation run and involved an impact with the team's support truck.
