Hannah England wins Oxfordshire Sportswoman of the Year Award

World Championship 1500m silver medallist Hannah England has won the 2011 Oxfordshire Sportswoman of the Year Award.

England, 24, won the accolade ahead of golfer Katherine O'Connor and triathlete Sophie Whitworth.

Cyclist John Paul, 18, was named Sportsman of the Year, after a strong year in the track sprint.

Paul beat rugby player Alec Hepburn and disabled shooter Andy Gardiner to the men's award.

England was the region's stand-out performer after her stunning silver medal success in Daegu .

In the other categories it was a good year for Abingdon Vale Swimming Club, who were named Club of the Year and their coach Scott Farnall, who took the Coach of the Year trophy.

Gardiner, who has also competed in golf this year, made up for his disappointment in missing out on the Sportsman of the Year Award by winning the Disabled Sportsperson category.

Franky Marulanda was recognised as the Unsung Hero for his work with the Oxford Hoops Basketball Club.
