Voices from Rotherham: Turning words into action
Hayley Carmichael as Lila Firing young imaginations

Two pupils from Clifton School in Rotherham became theatre reviewers when they went to see The Firework-maker's Daughter.
Lila is determined to follow her chosen career

We had never been to the theatre before and thought of this as a very exciting trip. The play was The Firework-maker's Daughter at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

The theatre had a nice atmosphere and seemed quite posh to us. The play was really funny in some parts and the story line was brilliant.

The story is of a young girl who wants to be a fireworkmaker like her father. The best part for us was the firework competition at the end because it was very funny and everything a firework display should be without the fire.

Rambashi (Paul Hunter)
Rambashi, here dressed as a chef, was a favourite character.

There were many sound effects for the fireworks performed by the actors and actresses. There was plenty of music, good songs and thrills too.

The characters we liked were the white elephant called Hamlet, the fire fiend Razvani and the pirate Rambashi.

We think this production is best suited to families with children aged 8 to 15. It finished at 10:00 pm and there was one interval of 20 minutes.

Although the theatre was not completely full we really liked the play and give this production 9 out of 10.
