What's your name?
Jenifer Mary Pettitt

What's your fun on a shoestring idea?
Walking in the woods/countryside + picnic

National Trust sign
There are lots of walks to choose from, for people of all sizes and abilities

Tell us about it:
Take black dustbin bags to sit on for your picnic because they are so light to carry and very suitable if the ground is damp/dusty.Take lots of snacks such as wrapped cereal bars, fruit ,crisps and drinks in individual plastic bottles so that with young children you can stop for frequent breaks and snacks - they tire easily but they don't want to sit for long!

What do you enjoy the most?
Its simple and children learn to appreciate our beautiful countryside. Its educational and you can learn to identify birds, birdsong, wild flowers, trees, grasses fungi and wild animals etc

Who would enjoy it?
Everyone!

How much does it cost?
free

a stream in a wood
Take some time out to look at the nature around you

Is there any special equipment you need to do this?
Suitable clothing for the weather conditions

Where and when can you do it?
Anywhere where there is a right of way. It is an activity all the year round.

Any other comments?
Tourist Information Bureau will have leaflets with suggested walks and historical and flora and fauna information.

Got a favourite activity or pastime that costs less than a tenner? Tell us about it!
