The
Graves Animal Park is situated a short walk away (uphill - be warned!)
from the heart of Graves Park itself.

Park cuddlebunnies! |
It
is the ideal retreat for those of us seeking a reminder of the more
pastoral things in life.
While
it's no Garden of Eden, it is a cheerful and fun escape from the
stressful world of the city.
There
are a variety of animals on show from donkeys to pigs and all manner
of birds, rabbits and goats. There's even a couple of Degus (no,
I've never heard of them before either).
It's
a nice relaxing retreat for the older person. But for the kids it
is a whole different ballpark.
When
I visited there were a number of school trips in motion. The rapture
that can be seen on a child's face when he or she sees a pig rolling
about in a bath of mud is reassuring in its simplicity.

a piggy guinea pig! |
Any
parent with designs on a Mum/Dad of the year award would be well
advised to organise a visit here - while an old showbiz adage says
'never work with children of animals' the two seem to love to work
together.
In
fact the presence of the brightly coloured enclosures and numerous
information boards bearing such facts as "The average person eats
50ft of food in a lifetime" suggest that the site is tailored toward
the inquisitive, sponge-like minds of the young.
The
park also sells fresh eggs and rabbits.
