HMS Sheffield sails into King George Dock, Hull, 11 October 2002

HMS Sheffield was officially decommissioned by the Royal Navy on 15 November 2002.

But before she reached the end of her journey, she made one last visit to the Steel City.

We took advantage of this opportunity to get one last look at the Type 22 Frigate - inside and out.

Crew member on board HMS Sheffield

She arrived majestically in the King George Dock, Hull, at 0930 on Friday, 11 October.

Once docked, her crew began preparing for a special VIP event to be held on board that night - just one of a series of events that was designed to commemorate the ship's links with Sheffield.
