Who are you, then?
SOLAR CELL

Where are you from?
The sticks - East of Doncaster

Tell us a bit about yourselves:
...the Marshall brothers including twins Gary and Steve have been jamming around as a guitar trio since their early teens - we are all between 22 and 25.

After years spent perfecting their skills, they got together with a good friend called Callum who happened to be an exceptional drummer - one who could keep up with the talented Marshalls.

From here they layed the foundations for what would become Solar Cell and began peicing together dynamic, fresh sounding and idiosyncratic peices of music with a passion and an eye for detail that most can only dream of.

All 4 founder members play their instruments with amazing flair and are as tight as water is wet. Fate played its part, if you will, when Calder joined as the voice to carry these songs into peoples hearts.

The story goes thus: Approximately 6 years ago Steve performed his first live show with a local original band as a one off gig. The drummer of that band was a committed musician who wrote lyrics and always wanted a chance to get up front and take the mic.

After no contact at all for that 6 year period, one chance meeting in a Doncaster bar saw a night that would make history for these 5 driven individuals. It all dropped into place amazingly well as the songs were finally given a voice that they cried out for.

With no delay the band started doing shows and although its very early days there has been an amazing response from all who have had the chance to see them live. They now plan a relentless surge of gigging and bigging up and hope to see their music touch people far and wide...worldwide!

Who's in the band, and what do you play?
Dave Marshall - Riffs and Chords Guru
Steve Marshall - Bassline Wizardry
Callum Morrisson - Rhythmical Foundations
Gary Marshall - Lead Guitar Limits
Calder McLaughlin - Voice and Verse

How long have you been around?
18 months ago, although vocals only introduced 4-5 months ago.

What's your best moment so far?
Bagging a support slot for Black#5 at the Leopard with promotor Heather saying that we will, "Blow them off the stage!" Yet to prove her right but this takes place on 27th Nov.

Describe your music for us:
Its a hybrid. Its Funk and its Rock. Its: heartfelt; its moody; its dark; its uplifting; its soulful; its political; its knicker wetting; its jaw dropping; its well executed and its f**king quality!!

Who are your influences?
Generally speaking good musicians and the likes of: Chilli Peppers; Pearl Jam; Alice in Chains; Matchbox 20; Tool; Counting Crows; Smashing Pumpkins; Rage Against'. An American sound with the sentiment of Pink Floyd; U2 and the Police perhaps.

And if you could cover one song, what would it be?
It would always be a compromise on more than one persons part if we were to choose just one favourite song to cover. No-one else's music could possibly sum up the five of us better than ours. Thats why we write songs with such a variety of moods. Tough one that.
