Piglet stirs up a football storm
Poster of a piglet outside Bramall Lane
The piglet poster outside Bramall Lane

This little piggy is causing quite a stir!

A poster featuring a piglet outside Sheffield United's ground has been defaced and vandalized.

Are militant veggies to blame, or is it outraged footie fans?

The piglet in the picture, an advertisement for Holsten beer, has appeared on a billboard outside Sheffield United's ground on Bramall Lane.

The poster has since been vandalized - but was it targetted by militant vegetarians objecting to the words "sausages" and "trotters" printed on the pig's body, as suggested by some quarters?

Or was it defaced by angry Blades fans?

Have militant vegetarians shredded the piglet poster?

We're not sure whether the advertisers are aware of the two Sheffield teams' charming habit of calling their rival fans pigs or porkers - but if they are, they've certainly got the city talking.

Emails of a doctored photograph, with the text "It's what's inside the ground that counts", have been flying around Owls' and Blades' computers.

The text on the advertisement actually reads "It's what's inside that counts". But the poster appears to have angered Blades fans - since its appearance, large chunks of the poster have been torn away.

The rivalry between the two clubs is fierce, and this year the Blades have been enjoying their recent success and the Owls' relegation at the expense of the S6 supporters.

But at the moment, it would seem to be Hillsborough fans who are crying hee, hee, hee, all the way home... at least until the poster appears outside their ground!

arrow Should Holsten have placed this poster outside a football ground? Does it offend you? Or is it the funniest thing you've seen this year? Have your say on our message board!
