The
Lodge, on Manor Lane, was built in the 16th century and may have been
the hunting lodge for the grand manor house.
The ruins of the grand house can still be seen on the site. The Lodge
(known locally as the 'Castle') is now surrounded by the Manor housing
estate.
The building has a tale to tell, it saw the imprisonment of Mary Queen
of Scots by Queen Elizabeth 1, the Lodge's wonderful stained glass
windows and plasterwork ceiling recall its royal prisoner.

The
Restoration TV series, presented by Griff Rhys Jones, features 21
threatened buildings from across the country. A public phone vote
will determine which building will receive restoration funding.
Green Estate Ltd, a company formed by Manor and Castle Development
Trust, Sheffield Wildlife Trust and the Friends of Manor 'Castle'
with the aims of promoting and improving the Lodge and two adjacent
farms, Manor Oaks and Manor Cottages, is backing the Restoration
bid.

Clare
Dykes works for Green Estate Ltd, as the Manor Lodge Project Manager:
"We're
very excited about Restoration. Sheffield Manor Lodge is the most
important historic site in Sheffield, yet at the moment most people
in Sheffield don't even know it exists.
So now, at least, people will know we're here, and also, hopefully,
we'll raise some money to save this important site."
