The
Riverside
1 Mowbray Street
S3 8EN
The
Riverside bar is a little bit different to the other pubs in the
Kelham Island area. It's a little more modern, stylish and upmarket,
but without being pretentious.
It
has bare brick walls, chunky wooden tables and comfy sofas.
The
bar sees a good range of real ales and continental beers, and during
the daytime does good quality food.
There
is live music on Saturday nights, Curry buffet on Thursday nights,
and a carvery Sunday lunchtimes.
If
the weather is good they have tables on a balcony overlooking the
river Don.
The
staff are nice too!

This is my favourite place to come for Sunday lunch. Good choice of beers and soft drinks and an amazing Sunday dinner. The atmosphere is relaxed too with seating outside in the summer.

Called in here last night, having stumbled through the ill-lit roadworks, and was not impressed at all. Another example of the 'elastic barperson'(maid in this case). When you walk in they are sat well away from the bar engaged in personal maintenance; they eventually slouch over to pull your pint, then - "ping!!" - beat a hasty retreat back to the twilight zone. Except that in this case the pint (Archer's, with some Sherlock Holmes theme)was murky and 'off'. My request for a replacement was politely made but the reaction suggested that here was another never-satisfied bairn who'd rejected his stewed apple through sheer awkwardness. However, the party of braying suits who turned up shortly afterwards demanding "pints of lager" presumably had no complaints. Look, if you're going to give yourself cafe-bar pretensions while in the Neepsend trenches, at least: (a) keep a good pint (b) train your staff to know what a bad pint looks like. There's just too much competition to justify seeking to repeat a bad experience.

One of my favourite bars in town. Not quite a pub but not quite a bar it's somewhere in between the two.The selection of beers is diverse and all are tasty and the food is top notch without being expensive. If you fancy a night away from horror and mayhem of the town centre and you can fight your way through the building works then it's well worth it.
