The Strines Inn, Strines Bradfield, Sheffield, S6
the grub like, then?
Freshly prepared, hearty meals (not a frozen lasagne in sight !)
Would recommend the hot smoked mackerel as a starter. Our main course
choices ranged from home made steak and ale pie to 3 bean and celery
chilli - both delicious.
did you drink?
Red wine - good choice of French, Chilean or South African. We plumped
for the South African, which was velvety and rich.
the crowd like?
Mixed bunch, ranging from walkers through to city-types having a
night away from the rat-race.
Cosy & relaxed
else you'd like to say?
Ignore the horrible stuffed animals (everything bar the Yeti! When
you can eat quality home-made food like this, it still astounds
me why a lot of people plump for the pub / carvery chains taht serve
pale imitations !
Good VFM. Approx £25 for 2 (starters, main & drink)
Hi Stayed 2 nights at the Strines and was very pleased with the service and the great food. We went for an afternoon walk on saturday and came back hungry but didnt want to spoil our appetites for dinner later. So we decided to have a bowl of home made chips...mmmmmm mmmmm my companion was tired of hearing me rave about them but its not often you get such a basic food done so well!! Its great in winter by the way there are coal fires in every room and the bedroom we stayed in. Great value and a great weekend away from the rat race.
Having been a fan of this pub previously (see my earlier comments), I was intrigued to read Mike's comments regarding declining food standards but good beer choice. Just visited today (17/12/05) and food was excellent and vfm as ever. Our niggle was with the beer selection - the XB ran out as we were ordering it. An overheard and mumbled conversation between the Bar staff revealed that they had no intention of putting anything new on until the Marstons Xmas Ale was exhausted! Not a bad brew, but guys - Do not manipulate your customers in this way - if you have a product, offer it. Otherwise you just become an average Peak District pub.
Stayed there overnight 17/9/05
on our way back to Reading from Leeds. Good home cooked food, friendly service and breakfast is served in your bedroom. Fantastic wish we had a pub like this nearer home.
I am a Grandmother who visits my Grandchildren living in Sheffield. We like to go to this pub because it is "child friendly" and the food is excellent!
The meat pie and baked potatoe
must have been in the oven all afternoon waiting for a customer. The pie has shrunk since the last landlord. No enthusiasm from the staff.Saving grace was the choice of real ales.Fond memories of previous visits but we won't be going back.
A favouite spot to detour for lunch on our way home to Buxton after shopping in Sheffiled. Lovely food.
Sales Manager for N.Europe and perhaps the best Inn I have visited, Just what a pub should be with advantage of accomodation and had a great run up the moor.
We have visited the pub twice now in recent weeks as a suitable refreshment stop on long peak walks. The welcome, the food, the beer, the atmosphere are all exceptional - a cracking pub!
Beautiful home made food - really hearty, and plenty of it. Real gravy too - not that water that chain pubs try to pass off as gravy! Just like my nan used to make! Yum!
Fantastic place to eat!
Fantastic, home-cooked food! Had hot mackerel sald and boyfriend had a bacon & stilton pannini. Shared good, homemade chips that are the best ever. Friendly, cosy and good to know they also do B&B with hearty english breakfast if you decide the place is too good 2 leave! 4 moos - only thing that lets it down is the stuffed animals ! :-(
Had a very hearty, tasty & definately home made Beef & Ale pie recently along with lovely crunchy fresh veg - I recommend it washed down with a glass of their Merlot!
I work at the strines inn and it nice to see loads of peple like the way we run things also the food is fantastic as i am the chef i do have to say we only use kindey beans in our chillie and there hasnt been a celery in sight in the last 18 months i have worked there but we do use the freshist ingredient we can find and its the prme minced beef that goes in to our chilli and iwould like to recomend the rump steak with pepper sauce
A bit out of town but perfect for an evening walk at Stanage End
then down to the pub for beer, special home made chips (you have
to ask for their special spicy tomato sauce, even if you don't like
the normal stuff! You'll be taking a bottle home) various tasty
hot stuff, following by excellent coffee. Apparently they have won
'coffee pub of the year' several times, I didn't know such a thing
