They left
it late, but I think most of us in the ground could see it coming.
So
away we walked - dejected after a 1-1 draw at home and seeing Barnsley
knocked off top spot in Division Two.
Hang
on a minute - we are still second, and how many of us could have
predicted that before the season began.
So
lets keep things in perspective, regardless of who we played on
Saturday, if we had been offered 11 points and no defeats from our
first five games we would have snapped it up.
We
played reasonably well, we got the goal - and then we just stopped
playing.
There
were two major factors in this - Lumsdon got injured and had to
come off, but was playing really well until then, and we have to
credit County for changing their formation and pushing us back.
There
were one or two moans and groans at the end, and that will always
happen, but at least this time we could see that it also hurt the
players.
That's
important, and I for one didn't get the feeling that this sort of
thing had any effect on them last year - it's these subtle things
that show me the progress we are making.
Gudjon
is still working with his hands tied behind his back, and managing
to produce.
To
be fair this guy amazes me, heaven knows what he'll achieve when
he is free to manage the team as he wishes.
This
of course relies on us being out of administration, and as I write
this piece the information about Ridsdale and Cryne gets stronger
by the minute.
If
the rumours are correct, I'll be writing my next piece with my club
under new owners.
I don't
want to get bogged down in this huge issue, but for me it isn't
important whose name is above the door.
I just
want to see my club run properly, with reasonable finances, fans
treated with some respect and an entertaining product to get behind
on Saturdays.
So,
be it Ridsdale and Cryne, Lewis and Moyes, or Sonny and Cher I'm
not that bothered, as long as things are done in the right way,
and with the right intentions.
After
the last few years, that is the minimum we deserve.
Looking
ahead, we have Chesterfield away on Saturday, and it looks like
we will sell our entire allocation of tickets. - another positive
sign!
I think
we are set up to be stronger away from home than at home this season.
At
home we are expected to make the running and open teams up, and
at the minute we don't really have the players for that.
However
when away, our solid defence can soak up the pressure, and by inviting
teams onto us, we can hopefully sneak something through Betsy and
Gorre.
Whilst
Chesterfield don't look the best side in the division, they have
been proving difficult to beat, and seem to be draw specialists.
I'd
love to see us win, and I think we can, but I'm going to predict
a 1-1 draw, and Gorre to get the goal.
So
come on folks - lets get behind the lads and remember how good it
is to be in contention for a change.
We
are above Wednesday, so make that count when you meet any of 'em
on your travels, and lets not get deflated if we do have a setback.
We
have the only unbeaten record in the division - so lets keep things
in perspective!
COME
ON YOU REDS!!
