The festival which runs between 8 and 14 November, 2004 is now in its 10th year.

It's the UK's premier festival dedicated to the documentary genre and its filmmakers. The festival is certainly the place to be for anyone with a love for factual film and television.

It's also an excellent opportunity for students and independent film makers to network and find a foothold in the industry - attending are representatives from all corners of the motion picture industry.

This year the festival boasts a huge selection of films, diverse, original, powerful and touching - 75 in all, coming out of over 20 countries!

In addition the festival organisers will hold sessions and master classes - these aim to provide attendees with an insight into the documentary world.

The event is heavily endorsed by the UK film and television industries - filmmakers Joan Churchill and Nicholas Philibert will share their experiences and creator of 'Super Size Me', Morgan Spurlock is this year's Channel 4 interviewee.

Ones to watch

Highlights of this years festival include the UK premiere of Accordion Tribe by Stefan Schwietert. It's a film that follows master accordionist and composer Guy Klucevsek and his international group of accordionists.

Also showing for the first time in the UK is Salvador Allende - this film concentrates on the Chilean leader's rise and fall, using interviews to create a portrait of the man who took his political philosophy from a shoemaker!

Jesus, You Know is a portrayal of six believers and their relationships with God. Each story opens an intimate space, permitting us a view of their relationships with their faith.

Grandpa is Still in the Tuff Shed is a hilarious account of a little town, Nederland in Colorado - it looks at the bizarre legacy of Norwegian Trygve Bauge and his private cryogenics enterprise.

Sure to be a favourite, and another UK premier is Tintin and I. This film offers a unique insight into the life of Tintin creator Herge and combines a unique interview, archive material and animated sequences to bring Herge to life again.

This is just a small collection of top quality films, with Russian creation In The Dark - Justice, which looks at society in Rio De Janeiro, and refugee love story Molly and Mobarak reinforcing the high standard of production.

The international event brings together the public audience with documentary directors, producers, commissioning editors, TV executives, academics, students and critics.

"Sheffield International Documentary Festival is the UK's essential filmmaking event with a policy for introducing challenging, entertaining and inspirational subject matter to its audiences," said festival director Brent Woods.

"The festival provides an environment where documentary filmmaking is treated without prejudice and challenges its participants and delegates to explore, experiment and reinvent creative standards for the genre."
