Adrian suffered with leukaemia and after an unsuccessful bone marrow transplant, he decided not to have further treatment. Instead he dedicated his final months to his 'Sign Up For Sudders' campaign to raise awareness about bone marrow donation and to encourage more bone marrow donors to come forward. His efforts even led Prime Minister Gordon Brown to describe Adrian as a 'true hero'. Adrian was 27 when he died. Adrian came into BBC Radio Sheffield in July 2008, about a month before his death. He spoke to Toby Foster about the ups and downs of his illness and his favourite music. You can listen again to the interview here. Help playing audio/video In May 2008, Adrian spoke to Rony Robinson about what it was like to learn that his illness was terminal. Speaking after his interview and before Adrian's death, Toby Foster spoke of his admiration and respect for Adrian: "We talked about the ups and down of Adrian's life in the programme, and he also chose the music - so it's probably the music that best describes him. I admire him for his strength and courage - not only for talking to me for a whole hour, but for the way he carried himself through his illness." last updated: 17/10/2008 at 10:22 SEE ALSOYou are in: South Yorkshire > SY People > Your stories > Adrian Sudbury |
