Bolted on to the tour for three nights after a text vote, Irish ruffians Glyder turn in a sturdy set liberally sprinkled with Thin Lizzy-style twin-guitar duelling. New songs including Sweets hint at a harder direction on their next album, but it’s the cover of Lynott and co. [Thin Lizzy]'s Cowboy Song which stands out. A second City Hall sell-out within 10 months should be all the evidence you need of the affection with which the British rock public hold Thunder. It's the traditional "greatest and latest" mix of tracks, with nuggets from the excellent new record Robert Johnson’s Tombstone sitting comfortably alongside – and in some cases surpassing – the jewels of the band's extensive back catalogue. Front man Danny Bowes may still dance like a six-year-old dying for a wee but he possesses one of the truly great rock voices - powerful and lascivious on the likes of I Love You More Than Rock 'n' Roll and new single The Devil Made Me Do It; emotive on the likes of Better Man and My Darkest Hour. Guitar whizz Luke Morley's songwriting ability seems to grow and, all these years later, Thunder are arguably firing on more cylinders than ever. Only the width of the grins on-stage threatens to outshine those of the departing audience. - Thunder and support band Glyder played at Sheffield City Hall on Sunday 26th November 2006
